Goodbye Shadwell

When I first moved to London, I moved in to a tiny flat with my friends in Shadwell. The flat was small, really small, but we didn't care, we were in London! 

And then, about a few months after we moved in, we noticed some damp patches appearing on our ceiling. Before long we found ourselves living in the coldest, dampest, mouldiest flat I have ever seen. The landlord was slow to respond to our requests to solve this problem, the builder (his mate) who was sent round was useless, and we spent a lot of time living in a pretty grotty horrible flat.

MOSCOW - The Red Square

Back in February I went for a long weekend to Moscow with my housemate. I have to say that I didn't really expect much from this city break, but I had the most fantastic time. Moscow really surprised me with it's hidden beauty and history.

One of the most famous parts of the city is the Red Square. First of all, it is beautiful. If you are fan of architecture, I'm sure you'll love this place. A big open expanse of cobblestones surrounded by impressive buildings, the most beautiful of which in my opinion, is St. Basil's Cathedral.

London is a city full of surprises, one of which I discovered last Saturday. Hidden within the bustling city centre near Monument is an old, and rather beautiful Church. A little slice of serenity in the big city.

Long time, no see

It's been almost a year since I last blogged. Wow, that's quite a long time. And to be honest, I didn't really miss blogging either, it was taking up so much of my time and I found it really tough to keep to a schedule. It was a relief when I finally admitted to myself that it was ok to stop, and take a breath. I just didn't realise how long that break would be.

Recently I have started reading blogs again, and it made me miss mine.

So I'm back. I don't know how long for, I don't know how often I'll post, or what I'll even post about, but I'm back :)

Welcome 2015

Last year was particularly exciting and busy for me, unfortunately this meant that I started and finished the year with very few blog posts.

Firstly I finished university, which was very bitter sweet. I am proud of myself for working so hard and achieving a mathematics degree, and I have also made the most wonderful friends. In a bid to make sure we keep in touch (due to us being from different parts of England) we started the alphabet club.

LONDON - Restaurant review: Flat Iron

The Flat Iron is a steak restaurant in Soho, London. Last Saturday I went there with a friend for lunch after being recommended by a friend, and having heard loads of fab reviews, and honestly, the restaurant didn't disappoint.

Flat Iron is a small restaurant with an even smaller menu. There's just one item on the menu, flat iron steak (you'd never guess right?). The steak cost £10 and is absolutely delicious. The choice of sides is good, and fairly priced. We chose dripping cooked chips and creamed spinach, both just as delicious as the steak.

As well as their main menu, they have a specials board which normally contains one dish, such as steak from a different cut, or a cheese burger. Although neither of us chose the special last Saturday, the couple next to us ordered the burger and it looked to be to the same standard as the steak.

I would recommend Flat Iron as a place to go for lunch rather than for dinner purely due the portion size. It is perfect for a large lunch, or a small dinner, but I think you would have to order a few sides to make sure you got your fill if you were hungry and went for an evening meal there.

I will definitely be going back to Flat Iron. I think it's a fantastic place to go for lunch, to eat nice food whilst keeping the cost down too.

LONDON - Whats on: Mock Tudor

One of my favourite things about London, is that there is so much going on, all the time. There's quirky cocktail bars, specialist restaurants, weird exhibitions, pop up events, roof bars, food markets selling the most delicious food, and loads more. There are so many different opportunities to do something different that I usually wouldn't.

Last night my flatmates and I went to go and see a play called Mock Tudor in a small theatre above a pub in Clapham. I can't express how much I enjoyed it.

Moving on up...

Some of you might have been wondering why I haven't posted in a while, and the truth is I'VE MOVED! I've got myself a grown up job in the city and moved into a flat with two friends. Very exciting stuff, but I have been without wifi for a while (and hot water/gas/washing machine/blinds/shower curtain, but who's counting..).

Monthly book reviews - June

Now that I've finished university and entered the grown up world of work, I'm spending a considerable amount of time on a train commuting too and from my job. This has resulted in lots of books being read, which gave me the idea of starting a monthly feature of mini reviews.  I've never had a recurring feature on my blog, so lets hope I can keep it up. (One post a month can't be that hard right?!)

Lingfield Races -- my evening in numbers

Last weekend my sister and I, plus our boyfriends went to the races. We had an absolutely wonderful time, and despite a little rain at the beginning, the rest of the afternoon was beautifully hot and sunny. I've never been to the races before, so I didn't now what to expect but I really enjoyed it. We even got to watch a Shire Horse race (it felt like watching a race in slow motion). 

Home improvements: New conservatory (part 1)

The conservatory at my family home is old, 25 years old in fact, and it is in a bad way. The wooden beams are rotting, meaning that whenever it rains you have to put out buckets to catch the rain water. It's become second nature (apparently not for my sister though, who once put a colander out).

So this year, my mum and dad decided enough was enough. A new conservatory was in order...

BRIGHTON - Restaurant review: Pho

When Tom and I last went to Brighton, we tried out a new restaurant called Pho. Pho is a Vietnamese dish which is a type of noodle soup. Although the menu at Pho does include other Vietnamese dishes, Pho is what they specialise in.
